The paper examines the distinctive characteristics of mining environments and their implications for occupational safety risk assessment. Mining activities are frequently conducted under challenging conditions shaped by various hazardous factors, including complex geological formations, rock mass instability caused by structural and tectonic disturbances, and the presence of underground gas and water accumulations. These conditions can significantly compromise the safety of mining operations and increase the likelihood of hazardous events. Workers exposed to such threats may face serious accidents, often resulting in fatalities and substantial economic damage. Consequently, mining workplaces are characterized by a high degree of uncertainty and considerable safety-related challenges. Conventional risk assessment techniques may prove insufficient in these settings, as they do not adequately account for the full range of interacting hazards and site-specific conditions. This limitation can reduce the reliability of risk evaluation and diminish its practical effectiveness in supporting safety management within the mining industry.
